How to delete old or unwanted email in Virtualmin Print

  • 0

PLEASE NOTE: We recommend backing up your mail before performing the bulk delete action

This can be performed from the webmail interface or if you have your mail set up as IMAP you can do it from your email client (e.g Microsoft Outlook or Mac Mail) directly. Here are the steps:

Option 1) Manually deletion from the folder/page (e.g Inbox) on Webmail.

  1. Log in to your Control Panel at https://yourdomain.co.za:10000/.
  2. Click on Inbox top left, and browse to the older messages. or any messages you want to delete.
  3. Select individual messages or click on the "Select All" checkbox at the top of the list
  4. Once selected, click on the red trash icon at the top

By default, there are 20 items per mail folder/page. The list can be increased by navigating to Mail Preferences in the bottom left.

Option 2) From the Mail Client (IMAP Only).

If your mail accounts are set up with IMAP (as opposed to POP3 for example) you can simply delete them from your mail client.

Please note that the mail in your Trash, if synced with the server, will also need to be deleted if you do not want it to take up space on the server.

BONUS) "Auto-Cleaning" via the Webmail interface.

To avoid mailboxes from becoming too big, you may make use of the Auto-Cleaning interface. This will automatically delete messages that fit certain criteria.

  1. Log in to your Control Panel at https://yourdomain.co.za:10000/.
  2. Click on "Edit Users" in the left-hand pane. This will bring up a list of all your email accounts.
  3. Click on one of the Users (eg 'info') and click on "Login to Usermin" to log into the webmail interface.
  4. In the Webmail Interface, click on "Manage Folders" and click on "Auto-cleaning" next to the relevant mailbox (e.g Inbox)
  5. By default "Auto-cleaning" is disabled. You need to enable it and choose the "Deletion Criteria", for example "Messages older than x days". Select it and hit save.
